Challenges for Deaf individuals in a Hearing workplace has always been a "hot topic". This is because there have always been challenges for Deaf individuals who obtain a job in a hearing workplace.
This "hot topic" is not new it has been a problem for a very long time, with few solutions and improvements made. It is a hassle for Deaf individuals to find a job where they feel welcome and useful. "Often they are labeled with stereotypes that portray them as different or mentally impaired are prevalent in society. These stereotypes have the potential to derail a deaf employee's career goals and shatter their self-confidence. In the workplace, many deaf people have the ability to perform at or even above the level performed by their hearing colleagues"(Justin Johnson & Demand Media). Deaf individuals are equally as capable and skilled if not more than their Hearing co-workers. They should not have their job skills judged based tier auditory skills. People always fear what they do not know, this is how they learn to follow stereotypes. Fear can
easily be attributed to a lack of knowledge about deafness and the capabilities
of deaf people and not knowing how to communicate with deaf people" (Alan Parnes & Diane Currie Richardson).
